THE KARAMOJONG
The Karamojong are such a unique cultural group in terms of their traditional life style. Their dress code, local arts, dance and marriage are among those that make them standout from other cultural tribes.
Still stuck to the ancient style of living, these Karamojong take pride in their culture an element that has contributed to cultural tourism within their region.
They are also known to be semi- nomadic pastoralists, hailing from the Nilotic ethnic tribe. These are found in districts of Kaabong, Abim, Kotido, Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit.
This is in the North Eastern corner of Uganda bordering South Sudan and Kenya.
Originally from Ethiopia, the Karamojong later got divided into two groups including the Kalenjin and Masai group in Kenya, plus the other group that included the Turkana, Iteso, Jie, Karamojong and Kumam.
The Karamojong culture value their cattle so much and a man is valued according to the number of cattle he owns. From this, they are known as a tribe of fierce warriors due to the way they fight to protect their animals. They live in small grass thatched houses made out of grass, mud and cow dung. These houses are commonly known as Manyattas according to their culture.
