Kampala city is Uganda’s national and commercial capital, bordering Lake Victoria. It covers about 189km and harbors a population of over 2million people. Itineraries
Activity 1
Uganda museum
This one day Kampala city tour, will commence after your breakfast, you will start with the visit to the Uganda museum, which is the oldest museum in East Africa, started in 1908.its a collection of Uganda culture and history, music, archaeology, history and science. It’s one of the most visited centers in Uganda, as it gives you the real picture of Uganda and its people.
Activity 2
Kasubi tombs
This serves as the burial grounds for the kings of Buganda. It was recognized by UNESCO in December 2001, as the best worlds heritage sites in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa, it sits on 26 hectors, it will enable you le4arn more about the culture and history of the Buganda kingdom.
Activity 3
Kabaka’s palace
It was constructed in 1885, by kabaka Mwanga ii, after taking dominion over the kingdom at 18 years of age .it’s located on Mengo hill. The most eyes catching are the statues of the animals that hold cultural value to countrymen that are aligned along the palace hallway as you approach the palace. Be sure to look out for the famous underground torture chamber built by Idi Amini, thus was a dark concrete tunnel with extreme darkness, dump cells, which were separated by an electrified water passage to prevent escape of prisoners. on ground are charcoal messages written by prisoners , as well as the scrap metal remains of kabaka Mutesa’s rolls Royce destroyed by Amini.
Activity 4
lunch
You will have lunch at a reserved restaurant, relax and then proceed to kabaka’s lake. This is the largest manmade lake in Uganda located in Ndeeba, its 5km away from Kampala-city, it was constructed between 1885 and 1888 by the 52 clans of Buganda kingdom. It occupies about 2 square kilometers and 200 feet deep. It is surrounded by tall trees, green grasses, and the two islands make it more beautiful. it is a home to various bird species like great white Egrets ,Hadadd ibis, black headed weaver, open biked stork ,African dater ,among others. It offers a beautiful background for photos and memorable videos. You will then proceed to namugongo
Activity 5
Uganda martyrs shrine
This is a place very sentimental to the Christian faith in Uganda and the world at large. It is where 32 young men were killed for their refusal to renounce Christianity. 22 were killed while 13 were burnt to death under the authorization of king Mwanga; between (1885-1887).due to the history of the shrine it receives many pilgrims on 3rd June of every year to celebrate these Christian pillars. The visitors often collect water from the miraculous lake, it’s said to have healing powers, and many testimonies have come up, you will enjoy the cool and calm environments well as the amazing art work in the basilica, and then proceed to Ndere cultural center.
Activity 6
Ndere cultural center
Uganda the “pearl of Africa” is one of the most diverse cultural countries in world. This center was founded in1986, it promotes performing arts, music dance, traditional story telling and poetry which translates into happiness and love during these performances that portray the culture of the Uganda people. You will enjoy a fun filled evening with a campfire, BQQS, dinner; get entertained as you relax from the long day. You will then return to your desired destination and that will mark the end of your Kampala -city tour.
