Mabira forest is the largest rainforest area covering about 300 square kilometers located in Uganda, Buikwe district, between Lugazi and Jinja district. It has been protected as Mabira forest reserve since 1932. It lies north of Lake Victoria with the forest drained by streams that empty generally northwards into Lake Victoria Nile.
Here comes a perfect opportunity for you who seek to relax with the side and sights of several birds’ species, as well as experiences how it feels walking through a forest, flashed by the sunrays and blanketed by echoes of forest residents

MABIRA FOREST BIRDING
This one day forest birding will start early in the morning from Kampala/Entebbe .our driver will cruise towards the Eastern part of Uganda [Buikwe district] before Jinja.
Along the way, you will witness various road side food markets like Namawojolo, Najjembe and others, you will have a stopover at Namawojolo for snacks, and here you will enjoy a delicacy of BBQ locally known as mchomo, among other food delicious local favorite foods like plantain, maize, cassava.
You will proceed to Mabira , along the way take keen observation of the beautiful and green hilly tea plantations, that look extra appealing to the eye, on a lucky day young will see farm workers harvesting , this drive is very smooth. The climate is very pleasant to the birds which migrate in numbers all year round, thus offering a perfect chance of spotting your favorite. The sound and sights of these glittering birds like the great blue Turaco, African grey parrot, black headed weaver, tambourine dove and superb sunbirds among others , will keep you focused from the start of the adventure to the end , look out for several plant species and indigenous trees. You will have your packed lunch in the company of soothing and relaxing music, you will head back to kampla and that will mark the end of your one day Mabira bird watching.
